The Fairfield City Council deputy mayor, Charbel Saliba, said that he is a close friend of Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel but is not a member of the Christ the Good Shepherd Church. He said that he was "shocked and saddened" by the attack and that he hoped Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel would make a full recovery.
