World Malaria Day 2022: Harnessing Innovation to Reduce the Disease Burden

WHO and Partners Celebrate Progress and Call for Continued Action

25 April, 2022

On 25 April 2022, the World Health Organization (WHO) and its partners will commemorate World Malaria Day under the theme "Harness innovation to reduce the malaria disease burden and save lives." The day recognizes the ongoing efforts and challenges in the fight against this deadly disease.

World Malaria Day provides an opportunity to highlight the successes achieved in reducing malaria transmission and mortality rates. WHO will recognize countries that are approaching or achieving malaria elimination, showcasing their innovative approaches and best practices.

This year's theme, "Advance equity," emphasizes the importance of ensuring equitable access to malaria prevention and treatment services for all populations, regardless of their location or socioeconomic status. WHO and its partners will advocate for increased funding and investment in malaria control programs, particularly in high-burden regions.

In a statement, President Joe Biden reaffirmed the United States' commitment to the fight against malaria. He recognized the progress made through the President's Malaria Initiative and pledged continued support for innovative approaches to malaria prevention and treatment.

World Malaria Day is a call for global solidarity and action. By harnessing innovation, scaling up prevention and treatment efforts, and advancing equity, we can work towards a future where malaria is no longer a threat to human health.
